Anchorage, Alaska Distance Runner Qualifies for Finals
Anchorage's own Sadie (Sadie) Bliss, placed seventh in her first round 1500m heat at the 23rd World Athletics U20 Championships Cali 2022 in Santiago de Cali, Colombia, on Friday.
With a time of 4:16.2, Bliss qualified for the finals on Sunday,.
The time was well off her personal best of 4:09.49 set in March but was fast enough to qualify for the final.
Bliss will be the only American in the final.
Bliss, 19, is a recent graduate of South Anchorage High School, where she won four state titles in track and field.
She is now a freshman at the University of Washington but is competing in Cali as an unattached athlete.
The World Athletics U20 Championships are an international athletics competition for athletes aged 19 and under.
The championships are held every two years, and this year's event is the first to be held in South America.
